Miracle Monday: Escape

From Pocket Miracles by Lois Jones

One summer afternoon in 1981 I was visiting my mother and stepfather.  It was mentioned to my husband that a tree in their yard desperately needed to be trimmed.  My husband volunteered to help and brought out my stepfather's aluminum ladder. He propped the ladder against the tree and began to make the necessary cuts.  My youngest daughter and I sat in lawn chairs watching him work.  My husband realized that the electrical power lines were close by and calculated that the cut he was making in the tree would fall away from the tree without harming anyone.  However, this was not the case.  On the final cut, the limb twisted and landed across live wires causing two things to happen.  The limb caught fire at the point of contact and electricity passed from the tree into my husband's body.  At this point he was standing in the tree.  He thought about jumping out of the tree so that he could avoid the aluminum ladder which would be electrified.  Looking down he realized he was 14 feet in the air and that the landing spot was covered in broken concrete.  Seeing no other option he bravely hit the back of the ladder with his hand, to see if electrical current was flowing through the ladder.  Miraculously, he found that the ladder was void of any electricity and he climbed down to safety.

When the fire department and the utility workmen arrived, they were amazed.  They declared, "You should have been killed!"  God always protects and makes a way of escape for his children.
